Provide a Dark Theme
-
Initially I planned to add customization. But it turned out that themes require a lot of tweaking which may be quite complex for average user. So I'm not sure that I'll add customization (at least not now).
Perhaps in your case it's easier to turn up screen brightness. Black won't change but text will be lighter (although images too). Or try to use gray mode. In general dark theme is not suited for daylight.
You can open Appearance dialog faster using feed menu. Click on number of unread articles on mobile near hamburger button to open it.

Thank you very much for a dark theme! All new appearance options are great, the reader is now much easier on eyes.
Is there any way to customize color themes? For example, I use Reader on AMOLED-based phone and I'd like to have a version of Dark theme with more text contrast. It is perfect for a night as it is, but in the daytime the text is a tad too dark.
Also, is there any way to quickly switch color on mobile version without going all the way to sidebar+gear+Appearance? -

Thanks again for the dark mode, been waiting for it a VERY long time!
Highlighting links on mouseover in a different color would work fine also, if you don't like underlining.
Text in the searchbar is perfectly readable, I just can't see the searchbar unless I look really closely!
I'm running both MacOS and Windows 10. MacOS is with the LG 5k monitor, Windows 10 is with a 1440p Dell G-sync gaming monitor. I agree they are "more or less readable", just have to squint a bit.
Makes sense re image proxy, I'll leave it on.
I don't have any custom styles installed, no.

BTW: do you have any custom CSS/style installed for BazQux? Perhaps some colours are coming from it.

Background color in dark theme must be pure black. So search box is just black on black with thin gray border (which is almost invisible and may it worth to change it).

I've removed underlining from links since it makes them harder to read. Not sure yet about underlining or changing colours on mouseover.
Tags and author names are quite light in default theme so I kept them darker in dark themes (in fact colours are just scaled from default theme to other themes, not the perfect solution but it works more o less OK). Same applies to search bar -- it's barely visible in default theme too (not sure yet about making it lighter in dark theme). But text in search bar is quite readable.
What monitor/OS do you have? While tags/authors are quite dark I'm finding them more or less readable on screens that I have (iMac, iPhone, old Google Nexus).
Thank you for links to other themes. Initially I've had idea to make themes customisable but I postponed it (too many other things to do).
Image proxy reduces tracking but most importantly it makes all images HTTPS and removes browser's mixed content warnings (I think that browsers will soon make big warning for sites that have any non-HTTPS content). It also allows to show images from social networks in Firefox (which blocks them as tracking images). And it increases speed -- sometimes there are 20 megapixel photos which slowdowns scrolling/loading and image proxy resizes overlarge images (and save traffic as a side effect).

Also, in the black theme, the search box at the top of the screen is black on dark grey and very difficult to see.

Fantastic improvement visually! I switched to the black theme immediately.
Not sure if this was in-place before, but when I mouseover links they don't change color or underline. That should probably be changed.
In many places like tags and author names, dark grey on black text is hard to read. Perhaps it should be brightened a bit?
What is the purpose of the image proxy? So the sites don't get my source IP address?
Also some suggestions for additional themes.

Thank you. Tell me if you find out what could be changed. It might take some time (and maybe looking on various devices and in various light conditions) to figure it out.

I very much approve the whole "Appearance" approach, well done!
I am _almost_ happy with overall colourscheme for Gray and Night, but can't figure out what I'd like to improve, sorry.

Working on it right now

Just renewed Bazqux for another year.
Still patiently waiting for that dark theme.

And themes is the next thing I'm planning to implement.

There is a Stylus browser extension which replaces Stylish https://www.ghacks.net/2017/05/16/stylus-is-a-stylish-fork-without-analytics/

Now that Stylish has been banned, is there another way to do a dark theme?

Now with great mobile site running I'd especially like to see a dark theme.
-
Still planning to add it. Actually maybe even in the next few months (spring-summer).

Yes, I'm currently using this one:

Would be great if you supported it (or something similar) natively. The bright white kills my eyes at night!

I'm planning to add themes to reader. Can't say ETA. Meanwhile, there are couple themes on userstyles you could try

Came here to post this exactly. For example, this Feedly theme is really great.
